StumbleUpon is my absolute favorite social media site.
The social site serves up stories tailored to your interests from the hodgepodge of stories from around the web, and now they want to serve up clean water too.
Charity:Water is an incredible grassroots company that is obviously all about bringing clean water to people that have none…which is most of the world.
Charity:Water is only about 3 years old, but has done HUGE things in that short amount of time. Now eBay-owned StumbleUpon wants to throw their weight behind the non-profit.
The StumbleUpon blog says,
Today nearly 1 billion people don’t have access to clean water, causing sickness, war, and death. That’s why we’ve decided to donate our annual employee holiday raffle funds to charity: water for the second year in a row. But we don’t want to stop there. We’re calling on you, our users, to help us raise $20,000 to bring clean water to an entire school – more than 1,000 people – that needs it desperately.
According to Charity:Water, $20,000 is enough mula to fund a entire water project for a school, providing up to 1,000 children with clean, safe, drinking water…hence the $20,000 goal.
How can you help?
The StumbleUpon community is a close-knit 12,000,000 userbase, but if only 7,000 of those users only donated $3, they’d reach their goal. Pretty simple math.
The deadline for their fundraiser is December 31st, so if you’re a stumble button clicker, take a moment to see if being a $3 giver feels like something you should do.
…by the way, you’re not a bad person if it doesn’t feel like you should. Just sayin’.
