Entire flash mob rejoices over a lone recycler

Do you think more people would recycle if an entire mall full of flash mobbers lavished them with the praises of a standing ovation?

I’m not saying that the people who walked right by the plastic bottle lying just feet from a recycling bin are bad people. Not at all. Maybe recycling isn’t a way they connect to living greener. Who knows, maybe they were rushing home to tend their victory garden or to volunteer at a local animal shelter.

One thing is nearly for certain, if we knew all the things we did to make this world a better place would be praised in such a manner, we’d probably be more apt to put them off less.

ohmygod what a horrible thing to do to someone. I’d be so traumatized. Don’t pull some poor stranger into it just to make a point! Also, your point would have been better if there was also a trash can next to the recycle bin- the message here isn’t so much about recycling as picking up litter….

Recycling plastic isn’t green. It simply downcycles plastic crap into stuff that cannot be recycled again anyway, that require toxic chemicals to reconstitute, that offgas eternally worse than the original plastic product they came from. It requires more energy to recycle than to create in the first place.
If the world cares about being green, then kill all plastics. There is no greenness in perpetuating a toxic substance through expending more money, energy, and effort than simply not using it in the first place.

Hey anon. I hear what you’re saying about plastic recycling, but at Eco-Snobbery Sucks we think EVERY step matters. As far as whether or not the offgassing and chemicals used to recycle plastic is concerned, the jury seems to still be out on that data…not to mention the fact that I would guess that it varies from product to product and recycler to recycler, ya know?

That’s stupid, how about the janitor do his job and clean up the mall. It’s not like the bottle was going to sit there for 10 years then float into the ocean. What a waste of time for all those involved, there has got to something more productive you could have done.
